NURSING (LPN-BSN)

1. Complete your OCU application.
2. Answer all questions and upload your personal essay about why you want to pursue a BSN degree and your goals.
3. Order official transcripts from every college or university attended to be sent to Oklahoma City University or [email protected]. Official transcripts can be sent via Parchment, National Clearinghouse, or by mail.
4. Complete the $55 application fee payment.
5. Submit your application.

Application Deadlines

Fall 2024:

• May 15, 2024 - OCU Application must be submitted. This includes official transcripts from student’s last completed semester in school. The deadline for international student applicants is July 1.

Spring 2025:

• Nov. 15, 2024 – OCU Application must be submitted. This includes official transcripts from student’s last completed semester in school. The deadline for international student applicants is Oct. 1.

A student meeting all of the requirements as found on the admissions policy, plus provides proof of bachelor’s or associate’s degree (plus religion course) from an accredited institution may be eligible to proceed with the below LPN-BSN tracks.

If a student has some or no general education and elective requirements, then they can meet with a nursing advisor and create a plan to fulfill these courses, all except six hours which can carry over into the program, to be eligible to start the NURS level courses.

If no degree is provided, then student must completed the required general education, general electives and science prerequisites prior to starting NURS level courses. Nursing advisors can work with student to create a plan of progression.

Students will need to connect with an administrator with Kramer School of Nursing to determine eligibility and individual timelines.

• Admission to Oklahoma City University
• A 3.00 cumulative GPA or higher.
• English proficiency as outlined in the English Proficiency Policy for Admission to NURS Courses.
• A bachelor’s degree in any field, Associate of Science, or Associate of Arts degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• All prerequisites must be completed prior to starting Nursing courses.
  • Completion of general education courses with a C or better.
  • A grade of B (3.00) or better in any college microbiology course with a lab.
  • A grade of B (3.00) or better in any college human anatomy course with a lab.
  • A grade of B (3.00) or better in any college human physiology course with a lab.
  • A grade of C (2.00) or better in any college chemistry course with a lab.
  • A grade of C (2.00) or better in any basic college psychology course.
  • A grade of C (2.00) or better in any college algebra course.
  • A grade of C (2.00) or better in any college nutrition course or OCU equivalent religion course.*

*Any applicant with an associate degree must have completed either a nutrition course OR a religion course with a grade of C (2.00) or better. The course must be evaluated and confirmed transfer through OCU’s TESS system prior to starting the program.

A full semester of Human Anatomy with a lab and a full semester of Human Physiology may be substituted for Anatomy and Physiology I (A&P I) and Anatomy and Physiology II (A & P II). This option requires both courses, not just one course.

For students whose first bachelor’s degree was earned outside the United States, English must have been the language of instruction. The first bachelor’s degree must also be equivalent to a bachelor’s degree grated by a regionally accredited U.S. college or university. Course prerequisites to the accelerated BSN program taken internationally must be equivalent to the corresponding courses offered at Oklahoma City University. These equivalencies must be determined by a company acceptable to Oklahoma City University that evaluates international transcripts.

1. Graduation from a State Board of Nursing approved LPN program.
2. Proof of active, unencumbered LPN License. Please upload your LPN report from the State Board of Nursing to your NursingCAS application.

LPNs who did not graduate from a nationally accredited program are required to take the NLN Nursing Acceleration Challenge exams.

• Foundations of Nursing (5)
• Child Health Nursing (4)
• Family Health Nursing (4)
• Simulation experience on content from these courses will still be required of all students.

A minimum score of 70 on each National League of Nursing (NLN) Nursing Acceleration Challenge exam taken to qualify for course credit. The Foundations of Nursing Acceleration Challenge exam must be passed to continue the L.P.N.-B.S.N. pathway. Students failing a Nursing Acceleration Challenge exam must take the Kramer School of Nursing course on that topic. Maximum of two attempts on the challenge exam. NLN Nursing Acceleration Challenge exam must be taken within two years to receive credit for the course. Up to 13 credit hours may be received toward the degree for successful completion of NLN Nursing Acceleration Challenge exam.

The BSN graduate of OCU's Kramer School of Nursing will function as a professional nurse able to: 

• Demonstrate clinical competence in the provision of ethical and legal nursing care.
• Collaborate with and educate clients regarding self-care activities designed to promote health, restore wellness and prevent illness.
• Utilize the nursing process as a critical thinking framework for problem solving and making effective clinical judgments.

• Manage, coordinate, and delegate care of clients within and in collaboration with the health care system. Exemplify the caring behaviors of acceptance of, respect for and empathy with the client.
