Oklahoma City University’s arts integration approach to teaching and learning has gained national attention since implementing the new curriculum, and the latest issue of the Association of American Colleges and Universities newsletter showcases a full-length feature story on the successful initiative.
OCU created two centers dedicated to arts integration with a $4.6 million grant from the Robert and Ruby Priddy Charitable Trust in 2005. The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and the Fine Arts Institute help faculty integrate the arts into their courses and give special attention to including art in general education classes.
Among the faculty development opportunities on campus is the Priddy Fellows program, a yearlong project that helps selected faculty develop an arts integration course. Current Priddy Fellows include professors of biology, religion, business and law.
