OKLAHOMA CITY – Subway Spokesman Jared Fogle will discuss healthy living on the campus of Oklahoma City University next week. Nearly 400 Oklahoma City elementary students have been invited to take part in Fogle’s visit and attend a fitness fair at OCU.
OCU’s Kinesiology Department is sponsoring the event with the Oklahoma Safe Kids Coalition and Subway Sandwiches. OCU President Tom McDaniel and Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett will kick off the event Wednesday morning.
Fogle will talk about his struggles with weight gain and discuss the importance of not only losing weight, but keeping it off. Fogle will advocate beginning healthy eating and living at a young age.
“I think it will be great for children to get to see Jared and listen to his story,” said Larry Guerrero, chair of the OCU Kinesiology Department. “We want kids to have fun and see that there are many different ways to engage in physical fitness. We want to make it fun and teach children nutrition and fitness for life.”
Following Fogle’s presentation, about 100 OCU kinesiology majors will help elementary students attending take part in a wide range of fitness circuits on campus. Indoor and outdoor circuits will include basketball drills, flexibility exercises, vertical jump testing, jump roping, volleyball, floor hockey, four square and many other activities.
OCU Kinesiology student Kara Nimz, president of the KES Majors Club coordinated the project in conjunction with students in the kinesiology senior capstone class.
