Oklahoma City University alumnus Kyle Dillingham has been hired as an ambassador in residence by the University of Central Oklahoma.
Using what he calls “musical diplomacy,” the violinist has found communicating across borders is easier when he introduces himself through music.
“Music brings people together ... everyone gets it. It allows people to have a relationship and begin building partnerships,” Dillingham said.
Dillingham, who performs solo and with the band Horseshoe Road, has performed in more than 25 countries, representing Oklahoma and the United States. He has had two featured performances on the Grand Ole Opry, has been on national television in China, and frequently collaborates with musicians in Chicago and New York.
He took his first international trip for UCO in October to Thailand and Korea with Dr. Dennis Dunham, executive director of International Affairs at UCO. Their stops included a visit to the U.S. Counsel General in Northern Thailand.
