Guest Pianist Sylvia Wang Performs with Brightmusic
Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble has rescheduled its “Auf dem Strom” concert, which had been postponed by winter weather, for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, NW 7th and Robinson. Admission is by donation and open to the public. The evening will feature guest pianist Sylvia Wang, who is holding a master class at the Bass School of Music in conjunction with her visit. Dr. Wang, a member of the faculty of Northwestern University, earned her Performer’s Certificate, M.M. and D.M.A. degrees from the Eastman School of Music. She has been a winner and finalist for awards and competitions including London’s Royal Overseas Music Festival; the AVANTI award, leading to a debut in London’s Purcell Room; the Chamber Music Yellow Springs, Ohio; and the J.S. Bach International Piano Competition in Washington, D.C. In addition to Schubert’s “Auf Dem Strom,” Thursday’s concert will include Richard Strauss’ Alpenhorn for tenor, horn, and piano; Beethoven’s Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat major, Op. 16; Shostakovich’s Quintet for Piano and Strings in G minor, Op. 57. Brightmusic is headed by co-artistic directors Dr. Amy I-Lin Cheng, director of piano, and Professor Chad Burrow, associate professor of clarinet, of the Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University.
