Students Take Honors at Black Student Government Conference
Two students from Oklahoma City University won top awards at the 32nd annual Big XII Conference on Black Student Government, which was held Feb. 26-28 at the University of Kansas. Bailey Perkins, a political science major, was named Outstanding Non-Big XII Freshman of the Year. Carlos Robinson, a business administration senior, was named the Non-Big XII Senior of the Year. Each student was awarded a trophy and $1,000. The conference included members representing black student governments from Big XII schools and others around the country. It included workshops hosted by prominent leaders, motivational speakers and activists. Topics varied from leadership training to the history of hip hop dancing, from internships to how to be successful as minorities at predominately white universities, and many others. According to event organizers, more than 800 students representing more than 50 universities attended the Black Student Government conference.
