Vocalist Michelle Amato will lead an April 2 master class, focusing on helping singers develop skill sets for careers in and out of the studio, on and off stage. The 10:30 a.m.-noon session, in Burg Theater at Oklahoma City University’s Bass School of Music, is free and open to the public.
Amato has performed and recorded with artists including Liza Minelli, Al Green, Sandi Patty, Jon Secada, Donna Summer, Michael McDonald, and Rita Marley. Her solo work is featured on Yanni’s “Ethnicity” CD and “Yanni Live” DVD. She recorded the title cut on Dirty Martini’s debut CD, “Save Your Love For Me.”
Amato will perform 8 p.m. Friday, April 3, at the senior recital of music composition major Rick McKee. The Petree Recital Hall event is free and open to the public.
She has been a featured soloist with The Memphis Symphony, The South Florida Pops, The Baton Rouge Symphony, The Florida West Coast Symphony and The Orlando Philharmonic.
She has performed for Warner Brothers, Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, Tournament of Roses Parade, Walt Disney Company, and jingle production companies throughout the country.
Amato earned her master’s degree from the University of Miami School of Music. She has coached singers for Cirque du Soleil and directed jazz vocal ensembles at The University of Miami, Miami Dade Community College, The University of Memphis and Rollins College. She currently teaches at The University of North Florida.
She has conducted master classes and clinics for The International Association of Jazz Educators, Grammy in the Schools, The North American Cultural Center in San Jose, Costa Rica, and various groups at Walt Disney World.
She has adjudicated for The National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts, The Florida Vocal Association, and various jazz societies. Her debut solo CD “I’m All Smiles” is completed and available at www.michelleamato.com.
