OCU Pianists Win Competition Prizes, Land Festival Slots
Sophomore pianists from the Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University swept the keyboard division of the 2009 Ladies Music Club of Oklahoma City annual scholarship audition. E-Ling Chia won first place, Hsin-I Lin was awarded second place, and Daniel Zhander P'ng earned honorable mention. Graduate student Marcin Parys is one of 25 pianists from around the world invited to participate in the 2009 Piano Texas International Academy & Festival. This year, the festival will be held concurrently with the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Second-year graduate student Ewa Plonka will give a solo recital in Tulsa on May 9, as the winner of the 2008 Oklahoma Israel Exchange Young Artist Competition. In alumni news, Anna Starzec took second place in Division II in the 2009 Hubbard Chamber Music Young Artist Music Competition. Fellow alumna Eun-Hee Park is the pianist in enhake, an emerging classical chamber ensemble comprised of musicians from South Korea and the United States. The group is one of the two finalists at the 2009 Yellow Spring Chamber Music Competition and is performing on an upcoming recording engineered by Grammy winner John Hadden and composer David Lipten, to be released on Centaur Records. All of the winners are from the studio of Professor Amy I-Lin Cheng.
