MONDAY, MAY 11
Three Oklahoma City University alumni who have starred on Broadway will introduce 15 newly graduated OCU singers to New York in OCU’s annual Music Theater Showcase, held in Manhattan’s Theater District.
Alumni Kelli O’Hara, Ron Raines, and Destan Owens will emcee the showcase.
Performances are 2 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. May 12 at New World Stages, 340 W. 50th Street.
“Nothing is more exciting than introducing our students to the professionals
of the theater industry,” said David Herendeen, OCU’s director of opera and music theater. “The students go in wide-eyed and excited, but after they sing for the agents, it is the agents’ eyes that get wide and excited.”
The 15 new alumni were selected through audition by agent Mark Redanty and casting director Arnold Mungioli. All Class of 2009 OCU graduate and undergraduate majors in vocal performance, music theater, dance, and the BFA program were eligible to compete for the 15 slots.
OCU’s 2009 Broadway showcase performers are Jane Bunting, Sean Coughlin, Peyton Crim, Ian Gibb, Brent Goble, Amara Haaksman, Kyle Hines, Joy Mayweather, Matthew McMahan, Manna Nichols, Patrick Pevehouse, Sam Prince, Rachel Rhodes-Devey, Heather Russsell, and Paige Williams. The new graduates will arrived early for rehearsals, and stay in Manhattan for several days after the showcase to meet with agents.
“Last year, every student had requests for interviews and/or head shot and
resumes. and five or six got agents,” Herendeen said.
Herendeen will direct the showcase; Jan McDaniel is head vocal coach and music director.
