Oklahoma City University will host the annual Collage and Mixed Media Exhibit this summer on behalf of the Oklahoma Watermedia Association (OWA). There will be an opening reception from 7-9 p.m. July 5 in the Hulsey Gallery at N.W. 26th Street and Blackwelder Avenue. Admission is free.
Regina Murphy, president of OWA, said the association hopes to get approximately 100 entries.
“We like to see works that go beyond using normal materials. We encourage them to be clever with what they use, and there needs to be at least two different kinds of material,” Murphy said.
John Wolfe, a longtime art instructor in the Oklahoma City metro area, will jury the show.
Anyone may enter a piece, and a prospectus is available by calling Murphy at (405) 848-0037. Works must be entered at the gallery between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. June 26. Entry fees are $25 for OWA members and $35 for non-members.
The Best of Show winner will be awarded $300, and four merit winners will each receive $100. Murphy said there will also be several prizes available for runners-up.
The exhibit will be on display from the opening reception until July 31. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 2-5 p.m. Sunday.
Burt Harbison, director of the Hulsey Gallery, said the exhibit is a prime opportunity to see some unusual works of art.
“Some of the best local artists enter this contest every year, and we expect there will be plenty of interesting things to see at every turn,” Harbison said.
