OCU Flutist Wins Appointment as Orchestral Principal
Graduate student Carley Flowers has been appointed principal flute with the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra. Flowers is a native of Oklahoma City, a graduate of Putnam City High School, and longtime private student of Professor Parthena Owens. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Central Oklahoma before being accepted into the masterís program in flute performance at the Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University. At OCU, Flowers was awarded a two-year scholarship as flutist with the Honors Woodwind Quintet. She was a finalist in the 2008 Collegiate Competition of the Oklahoma Flute Society, competing with flutists from North Texas, Carnegie-Mellon, and Oberlin. Flowers is a member of the Oklahoma City University Flute Choir and Wind Philharmonic and has performed with the OCU Symphony Orchestra. She plays regularly with the Oklahoma National Guard Band. She will receive her OCU graduate degree in flute performance in December 2009.
