TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13
Two Oklahoma City University alumni are featured in the 2009 New York Music Theatre Festival’s rock musical, “Rainbow Around The Sun,” playing at the 45th Street Theatre.
Nathan Siler is musical director of the work, which was written by Matthew Alvin Brown and based on a 2006 concept album by their band, “The Fellowship Students.” Siler also plays bass in the show, backed by fellow OCU composer/performer Warren Loy on keyboards.
An independent musical film of “Rainbow Around The Sun” was featured at the South by Southwest Film Festival, The deadCENTER Film Festival and the Athens International Film Festival.
The NYMTF performances began Oct. 5 and run through Oct. 17. The show bills itself as “a circus-like dissection of broken hearts, life through a liquor bottle, and rebirth through loss that follows flamboyant local rock hero Zachary Blasto as he struggles with his personal demons as he relives the highs and lows of his career during a radio interview.”
The 45th Street Theater is located 345 West 45 St. in Manhattan. Remaining performances are 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, and 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Tickets ($20) are available from www.nymf.org or (212) 352-3101.
