Trumpeter Jeff Luke returns to campus to be honored Nov. 7 as a
Distinguished alumnus of Oklahoma City University. Luke, in his sixth year as associate principal trumpet with the Utah Symphony, is leading a free master class from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, in the Bass Music Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
Luke earned his undergraduate degree from Oklahoma City University and masterís degree from the New England Conservatory, where he studied trumpet with Timothy Morrison and was a member of the Honors Brass Quintet.
As a member of the Atlantic Brass Quintet for 13 years, Luke performed at the White House, recorded several commercial albums, and toured 49 states and 14 nations. The Atlantic Brass was the first American quintet to win the International Brass Competition in Narbonne, France.
His teaching has included residencies at the Boston Conservatory, Boston University, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and the Tanglewood Institute. He has been a fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra and has performed with the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops Orchestra.
In addition to Oklahoma City University, Luke has conducted master classes at Louisiana State University, the University of Maryland, and Harvard University.
