Michelle Millben ’05 performed as part of an 80-voice chorus at the 32nd annual Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C. The gala was hosted by President Barack Obama , and taped for broadcast on CBS as a two-hour prime time special Dec. 29.
The 32nd annual event recognizes artists for lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts. 2009 honorees are Grace Bumbry, Mel Brooks, Bruce Springsteen, Robert De Niro, and Dave Brubeck. Caroline Kennedy hosted the show. Presenters included Jon Stewart, Meryl Streep, Sting, and Aretha Franklin.
In addition, Millben appeared as a choral singer in TNT's 2009 "Christmas In Washington," an annual musical celebration benefiting the National Children’s Medical Center. The show was taped Dec. 13 and initially broadcast on TNT Dec. 20.
Earlier in 2009, Millben was a member of the gospel choir backing up Bruce Springsteen's Feb. 1 Super Bowl halftime show. The choir also sang at the Jan. 18 blockbuster welcome concert for President-elect Obama on the National Mall and at his Jan. 20 inauguration in Washington, D.C.
Millben earned her degree in music business from the Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University. She is a former Miss Black OCU and Miss Black Oklahoma 2005. She attended the University of Oklahoma College of Law and the Georgetown University Law Center before graduating from OU in 2009. Millben said she “currently serves as Counsel for the Committee on the Judiciary in the U.S. House of Representatives.”
