The Oklahoma City University Young Democrats will host a “Meet Your Legislators” event at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4 in the Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center. State Sen. Andrew Rice and Rep. Al McAffrey, two legislators who represent the Oklahoma City area, will be the guest speakers. The event is free to students and the public, regardless of political affiliation.
Jarred Johnson, Young Democrats OCU chapter vice president, emphasized the importance of helping college students understand how politics works.
“The legislators will talk about why college students should pay attention to what’s going on in government,” Johnson said. “Instead of sitting back and watching the political process unfold, young adults need to take an active interest to ensure their voices are heard. There are issues that will affect us for years after we graduate, so the sooner we become involved the more likely our input will matter.”
Johnson said the Meet Your Legislators event is a longstanding tradition that the Young Democrats are honored to revive this year.
