Choral music from an Oklahoma City University alumna and by the Bass School of Music’s composer-in-residence will be featured as OCU choruses kick off the 2010 performance year with “Winter Madness.” The free concert begins 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, in Petree Recital Hall.
Among the works to be performed are “Wings of Fire,” an a cappella choral suite by OCU composer-in-residence Edward Knight, featuring seven poems by Langston Hughes. Knight's suite will be bookended by “Sit Down Servant,” by Linda Twine, an OCU alumna and Broadway music director, and “A Jubilant Song,” by Norman Della Joio.
Additional works include music by Rene Clausen, Imant Raminsh, Viejlo Tormis, Peter Menin and a French-Canadian folksong arrangement by Donald Patriquin.
The Ad Astra women’s chorus, University Men’s Chorus and University Singers are under the direction of Randi Von Ellefson and Judith Willoughby.
