OCU President to Speak at Ethics Awards Ceremony
Oklahoma City University President Tom McDaniel will be the keynote speaker for the OK Ethics Compass Awards ceremony April 20 at the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame. The annual awards ceremony is hosted by Oklahoma Business Ethics Consortium, a non-profit group that has more than 100 member companies across the state including Chesapeake Energy, Devon Energy, Coppermark Bank and OneOK. Shannon Warren, OK Ethics founder and volunteer director, said the choice of selecting McDaniel as keynote speaker was appropriate for many reasons. “This is the last year as university president for a man who embodies everything we try to promote with this organization,” Warren said, noting that McDaniel is retiring from his post as president this summer. “OK Ethics started with a paper I wrote as a student at OCU about ethical issues in business. Tom McDaniel is known for integrity of character and generosity of spirit, making him the ideal person for this address.” The ceremony will honor Tom Hill, chairman of Kimray Inc., with the organization’s first Pilot award. OK Ethics started in 2003 with a group of six people who wanted to champion the cause of ethical standards in the business community. Warren said the group multiplied each year from approximately 10 members in 2004 to more than 700 individual members today. The group hosts monthly meetings with presentations in Oklahoma City and Tulsa about ethical conduct.
