Alumnus Ron Raines will co-star this summer with Oscar nominee Amy Irving and veteran British stage actress Siân Phillips in “A Little Night Music” for Opera Theatre of St. Louis.
Designer Isaac Mizrahi will make his stage directorial debut with the June 6-19 musical. Mizrahi will also create the set and costume designs.
Raines graduated from Oklahoma City University with a bachelor’s degree in music in 1975. He received three Emmy nominations for his portrayal of soap opera villain Alan Spaulding in “Guiding Light.” Earlier Broadway appearances include ”Show Boat” and “Teddy and Alice.” He has released two solo albums “Broadway Passion” and “So in Love with Broadway,” both from Jay Records.
In the St. Louis production, Raines will portray Frederik Egerman, the former lover of Desirée Armfeldt. Irving will play Desirée opposite Phillips as her worldly-wise mother, Madame Armfeldt. Phillips first appeared in the role in the 1995 London revival of “A Little Night Music” opposite Judi Dench.
The 1973 Tony-winning musical is by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler. For tickets and more information, visit http://www.opera-stl.org/Default.aspx
