Three percussionists from Oklahoma City University have advanced to the second round of an international marimba competition.
Each of the three has been awarded funds from the Bass School of Musicís Burton-McCassland Fund, which underwrites costs of key competitions, to travel to Los Angeles for the next level of the 2010 Southern California Marimba Competition.
OCU students Eddy Streck, a sophomore from Mustang Okla.; Dane Romano, a senior from Edmond, Okla.; and Greg Anikiendko, a second-year graduate student from York, Penn., are among 15 semifinalists chosen from first-round taped auditions for the solo collegiate division.
They will compete against percussionists from Japan, Taiwan, California, New Mexico, Michigan, Texas, Florida, Massachusetts and New Jersey.
The competition is hosted by Chapman University.
