Choral and brass musicians from the Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University will take the spotlight 7 p.m. Friday, March 26, in a 50-minute concert at the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel. Admission is free and open to the public.
Randi Von Ellefson will conduct the University Men's Chorus. Judith Willoughby and graduate conducting student J. Warren Mitchell will lead Ad Astra Women's Chorus in works by Aaron Copland, Veljo Tormis and Rosephanye Powell.
Benjamin Nilles will conduct members of the Oklahoma City University Brass Ensemble, joined by singers from Ad Astra and University Men's Chorus in an arrangement of “Sleep,” by Eric Whitacre. Featured brass players will be Joanna Marzec, James Doss, Whitney Lee and Cameron Bell, horn; Ryan Beach and Timothy James, trumpet; Justin Sechrist, trombone; Sun He, brass trombone; Samuel Winters, euphonium; and William Bohn, tuba.
The concert will last less than an hour, to allow attendance at the chamber opera The Consul, which begins at 8 p.m. Friday. Additional performances of The Consul are 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.
