Tulsa, Okla. – The Oklahoma City University Stars men’s rowing team took first place in every event they raced Saturday during the Route 66 Regatta sprints in Tulsa.
The OCU duo of John Riesenberg and Josh Steenburgh won the crew’s first race, the men’s open double (2x). Riesenberg then went on to the secure a gold medal in the men’s open single (1x) race with teammate Nick Berry taking bronze in the same event.
Coxswain Jake Fox led Kyle Adair, Jake Lamb, Steenburgh and Matt Mahon to first place in the men’s open four (4+). The team’s final event featured Mahon, Steenburgh, Lamb and Riesenburg, who won the men’s open quad (4x).
“I know we’re on track to meet the tough competition ahead of us leading to the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) championship after watching each rower execute the race plan on the water Saturday,” said OCU coach Linas Smailys. “We’re hosting the rowing championships, so we certainly want to have a strong showing.”
The ACRA championship will be May 22 and 23 on the Oklahoma River.
The next race for the Stars is USRowing Speed Orders/National Team Selection Regatta April 23 to 25 in West Windsor, N.J.
