SATURDAY, MAY 08
Newly graduated performers from Oklahoma City University will take the stage in New York City for OCU's third annual talent showcase in music theater and its inaugural acting showcase.
Two performances of each showcase will be held Tuesday, May 11, in midtown Manhattan at New World Stages, 340 W. 50th St. Music theater performances are at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.; the acting showcase begins at 2:40 p.m. and 6:40 p.m.
"The intent is to develop relationships with casting directors and agents with the hope of representation, but also to demonstrate the good talent and good students that OCU produces," said David Herendeen, director of the music theater showcase and of OCUís Oklahoma Opera and Music Theater Company. Jan McDaniel is the event's music director.
Seniors and graduate students auditioned at OCU before a panel of three casting directors and talent agents: Arnold Mungioli, Mark Redante, and Bob Durkin. Last year, agents signed a record number of performers.
"Casting directors, talent agents, stage directors, publishers -- basically reps of the New York Broadway theater industry - will be in attendance," Herendeen said. "The showcase is designed specifically for the industry, to give them a concise demonstration of the type and talent of these OCU graduates."
Lance Marsh is directing the acting showcase, which will spotlight Alex Choate, Caitlin Garner, Quinn Gasaway, Korri Givens, Stephen Ochsner, Shae Orrick, Aarika Trabona and Aja Wiltshire.
This year's featured music theater alumni are Desiree Dillon, Matt Ellison, Kim Faure, Carl Hendin, Desmond Hert, Angelina Leis, Katie Martin, Josh Sohn, Jessica Smith, Jaclyn Stapp and Thomas Stewart.
