SUNDAY, JUNE 06
Karen Coe Miller, assistant director of OCU’s Oklahoma Opera and Music Theater program, is marking her 24th season on the summer faculty of the Wesley Balk Opera/Music-Theater Institute for performers, directors and coaches.
Miller will teach acting and supervise the directing program for the June 20-July 10 Minneapolis institute. The intensive three-week session, now in its 34th year, is sponsored by Nautilus Music-Theater.
The institute continues the innovative singing and acting training of the late H. Wesley Balk, a former colleague of Miller and a pioneer in his field. Balk’s technique “builds upon the basic skills of singing, acting, and moving, and unifies these essential musical and theatrical components into integrated performance… Special attention is given to ways in which a radiant performer interacts with the artform, their colleagues, and their community.” Info: http://www.wesleybalk.org
Later in the summer, Miller will travel to Graz, Austria to serve on the faculty of the American Institute of Musical Studies. The six-week session runs from July 5-August 15. It is her third as a stage artistry instructor for the opera studio performance. Info: http://www.aimsgraz.com/.
