NATS National Conference Spotlights Birdwell, O'Hara, McDaniel
Legendary OCU voice professor Florence Birdwell will be a featured speaker at the 51st annual convention of the National Association of Teachers of Singing in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her July 4 presentation will focus on the importance of text in singing. Info: Jan McDaniel, associate professor, will accompany alumna Kelli O'Hara on the NATS headline concert in Abravanel Hall on July 3. It will be their second performance together in three weeks; O’Hara and McDaniel will perform June 14 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum for the grand finale of the 78th annual meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. McDaniel, a vocal coach and collaborative pianist, is in his fifth consecutive season as musical director of the Key West Young Artist Program. The 2010 summer session, designed for the emerging professional opera singer, offers private voice lessons, coaching, master classes, training in movement and acting, and more than 20 performances of scenes and arias in venues around Key West.
