Concerto Winners Take Spotlight Sept. 14 in Honors Recital
The Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University is hosting its annual Honors Concerto Recital 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, in Petree Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. The program begins with Kristen Kirch performing Gioachino Rossini’s Introduction Theme and Variations for Clarinet in E-flat Major, accompanied on piano by E Ling Chia. Kirch is a student of Dr. Bradford Behn. Violinist Natalia Cañón Valencia will perform Henryk Wieniawski’s Legende, Op.17, accompanied by Hsin-I Lin, piano. Valencia is a student of Prof. John Arnold. Steven Del Ross will perform Alexander Arutunian’s Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra, accompanied by Charles Koslowske. Del Ross is a student of Prof. Michael Anderson. Trent Brewer will be featured in the first movement of Luigi Boccherini’s Cello Concerto in B-flat Major, accompanied by Marcin Parys. Brewer is a student of Prof. Tomasz Zieba. The program concludes with the first movement of Piotr Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23. Zhijun Duan will perform with his studio professor, Dr. Sergio Monteiro. Concerto winners were selected in competitive audition earlier in the year.
