The opening concert of the Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble’s eighth season will be held Sept. 20 and 21.
The Oklahoma City-based group will feature world-renowned clarinetist David Shifrin of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Yale Music School. Shifrin and his former student and protégé, Chad Burrow – Brightmusic’s co-artistic director and a former faculty member at the Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University – will perform with nine other Brightmusic musicians.
Appearing with David Shifrin are: Gregory Lee (violin), Katrin Stamatis (violin), OCU alumnus Royce McLarry (viola), Jonathan Ruck (cello), George Speed (double bass), Chad Burrow (clarinet), Carl Rath (bassoon), Larry Reed (bassoon), OCU faculty member Kate Pritchett (horn) and William Scharnberg (horn).
Brightmusic will perform “Clarinet Serenade” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at the Fee Theatre on the campus of Casady School, 9500 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Brightmusic will repeat the concert at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, 127 NW 7th Street in downtown Oklahoma City. Each concert will be followed by a reception with the Brightmusic musicians and directors.
Also on the program: Francis Poulenc’s Sonata for Two Clarinets; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Serenade No. 11 for Winds (featuring two clarinets, two bassoons and two horns); Bernard Herrmann’s rarely-performed Souvenirs de Voyage for clarinet and string quartet; and Amilcare Ponchielli’s Il Convegno for two clarinets and string quintet.
