OCU Homecoming This Weekend and Race with the Stars
OCUís Homecoming celebration this weekend has several activities planned beginning Friday and extending to Sunday. The Honors Program 20th Anniversary Reunion Dinner is at 6 p.m. Friday in the Leichter Room inside the Henry J. Freede Wellness & Activity Center. The traditional Lip Sync contest will begin at 8 p.m. Friday in the Freede Center. Runners and walkers alike will lace up their shoes and pound the streets of the OCU neighborhood Saturday for the Marianne Vannatta Race with the Stars. The 5K USA Track and Field certified and sanctioned race and 1-mile fun run/walk will raise funds for OCUís Elaine Masters Endowed Scholarship, which assists graduate nursing students at OCUís Kramer School of Nursing. The race begins at 8 a.m. in front of the Freede Center. The fun run begins at 8:45 a.m. in the same location. Registration is $30 and includes a T-shirt. A brunch and fashion show will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Great Hall inside the Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center. The fashion show will feature the latest in OCU apparel. The volleyball team will play Lubbock Christian at noon Saturday in the Freede Center. The men's basketball game will follow at 2 p.m. against Ozark Christian. The OCU Alumni Association will honor several outstanding alumni during the annual Distinguished Alumni and Athletic Hall of Fame Awards Dinner Saturday evening at the Devon Boathouse, Home of OCU Rowing and Canoe/Kayak. This yearís honorees are law alumnus Carl Alexandre, business alumnus Frank Bruno, music alumnus Edgar Cruz, honors alumnus John Fletcher, dance/arts management alumnus Stephen Kovash, arts and sciences alumna Angela Monson, nursing alumna Marla Peixotto-Smith, religion alumna Ekaterina ďKatyaĒ Marsakova Zoubkova and athletic hall of fame inductee Coach Phil McSpadden. A Native American homecoming worship service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Sunday in the Bishop Angie Smith Chapel. Lunch will follow in the Watson Lounge. The entire campus community is invited to attend. The service is sponsored by the OCU Native American Alumni and the American Indian Scholars.
