Oklahoma City University Names New Dean of Business School

OKLAHOMA CITY   Oklahoma City University announces its new dean for the Meinders School of Business.

Dr. Steven C. Agee will become dean of the Meinders School of Business in January, after  ending his tenure as chairman of the Oklahoma City Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City at the end of December.

 President Robert Henry said, “Steve Agee is the ideal person to be Dean of the Meinders School of Business.  A successful businessman and entrepreneur, he also is a Ph.D. economist, and a respected research professor.   His service on the Federal Reserve Board, which he recently chaired, as well as his dedicated community service, compliment his 30 years in the energy sector—the most vital sector of this region’s economy, as well as the nation’s economy.  This is the relatively rare but satisfying case where a nationwide search ended up with an amazingperson who was already here.  Oklahoma City University is honored to have Dean Agee at the helm of our prestigious Meinders School of Business.”

Agee, who has been serving as interim dean of the Meinders School of Business since November of 2010, is a native of Wichita, Kan.  Agee earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1975 before completing his M.A. in Economics in 1979 and Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Kansas in 1982.  Agee has also served as an instructor and assistant professor of economics at both the University of Kansas and Washburn University in Topeka, Kan., respectively.

Agee relocated to Oklahoma City in 1982, where he was president of the XAE Corporation, an oil and natural gas exploration and production company until 2005. He continues as the Managing Member of Agee Energy, LLC, based in Oklahoma City.

Agee first served as a visiting professor of economics at the Meinders School of Business in 2008.  During his time at the Meinders School of Business and Oklahoma City University, Agee has founded the Economic Research and Policy Institute, housed at the Meinders School of Business, and served as its first director.  Agee has also led efforts in increasing alumni support, community and corporate engagement from around the Oklahoma City region, and increasing student enrollment while serving as interim dean.

Most notably has been Agee’s leadership in introducing two new Master of Science programs to the curriculum at the Meinders School of Business.  The Master of Science in Energy Legal Studies and Master of Science in Energy Management will both commence classes in January 2012.

In addition to serving on the Federal Reserve Board of Kansas City, Oklahoma City Branch for the past six years, Agee’s civic and philanthropic activities include serving on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association, as a Member of the Board and immediate past-president of the Economic Club of Oklahoma, Chairman of the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board, Member of the Oklahoma City Economic Roundtable, and a Board Member and past-president of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Society.  Agee currently serves on the Allied Arts Board of Directors and the Board of theOklahoma City Philharmonic Foundation.

“It is an honor and privilege to be selected as the permanent dean of the Meinders School of Business.  The past year as interim dean has taught me about the complexity of the job and the many stakeholders involved in leading a business school.  It will be an intellectually stimulating position and I am gratified to work with extremely talented administration, faculty, staff and students at OCU.

“I thank President Robert Henry for the opportunity to serve under his leadership and I look forward to using my thirty years of energy and banking experience to the benefit our students, not only with regard to their education, but also with future contacts and placement for post-graduate employment,” said Agee.
