International Undergraduate Admissions

First-Year Freshman Admissions

A first-year freshman is a student who has never studied at another college or university, and who has only completed a high school degree. There is no age limit to enter as a freshman.

To be admitted as a Freshman the following documents must be submitted:

1. Online application

  • Complete the International Student Application (For All international students excluding nursing applicants)
  • All nursing applicants (BSN) must apply through NursingCAS
  • Apply Now: Select international application

2. Academic Records

  • High school Transcripts, Mark sheets, Grade sheets, National exam results
  • All documents submitted must show proof of high school completion or equivalent. Original academic documents with either official school seal or stamp, or attested verified copy by an authorized agency or evaluation company is accepted. We can begin an evaluation with unofficial documents, but official documents will be required at enrollment.
  • Grade Point Average (GPA). Applicants must meet the minimum GPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 scale.

*The International Admissions Office will conduct an in-house evaluation conversion to determine GPA.

3. English Proficiency

All international applicants whose native language (language first learned and spoken at home) is not English, or who did not complete a degree from an institution where English was the language of instruction, are required to take and English proficiency test. Applicants may still be required to take an English exam if deemed by the school or International Admissions Office.

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) internet-based test (IBT) score of 79+.
  • Nursing programs: TOEFL 83 with Speaking section score of 26
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall score of 6.5 with at least 6.0 on each sub-band. Nursing programs: IELTS overall 7.0 with minimum of 7.0 & Speaking Section and at least 6.5 in other sub-bands.
  • Pearson PTE score of 53+
  • Duolingo English Test score of 95+
  • Completion of ELS level 112 or completion of the highest proficiency level at a university approved English language institute.

The OCU Institutional Code for TOEFL is 6543.

Provisional Admission

Students who do not meet the English proficiency required for regular admission who meet the following score may be considered for provisional admission.

  • TOEFL internet-based (IBT) score of 60-78
  • IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no sub-band below 5.5
  • PTE Academic 48-52

4. Financial Statement of Support

International students are required to show evidence that they, their parents, or a sponsor have the financial ability to pay for tuition and living expenses during the time that they study in the U.S.

Financial ability is normally demonstrated by submitting a bank statement accompanied by a letter of support or Sponsor can use Financial Statement of Support (hyperlink) form. This statement must show enough funds to cover all expenses for the first year of study.

5. Passport

A valid passport is required.

6. Music Students

If you are seeking admission to the Wanda L. Bass School of Music, you will be required to submit a recorded audition. All auditions must be submitted to Acceptd; links to Acceptd can be found on the school of music's audition requirements page. Please refer to audition requirements before submission of your recording.

Transfer Admissions

A transfer student is a student who has earned any college credit beyond high school or secondary education.

To be admitted as a transfer student, the following documents must be submitted:

1. Online application

2. Academic Records

  • College, University, or Institutional Transcripts, Mark sheets, Grade sheets, etc.
    • Original academic documents with either official school seal or stamp, or attested verified copy by an authorized agency, or evaluation company is accepted. We can begin an evaluation with unofficial documents, but official documents will be required at enrollment. Be prepared that a student may be asked to provide syllabus/course descriptions for transfer credit.
  • Grade Point Average (GPA). Applicants must meet the minimum GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0 scale.

3. English Proficiency

Students who have completed more than 24 credit hours at a regionally accredited U.S. college or University are not required to submit an English proficiency test. (Courses with a D grade will not count toward the 24 credit hours.)

All international applicants whose native language (language first learned and spoken at home) is not English, or who did not complete a degree from an institution where English was the language of instruction, are required to take and English proficiency test. Applicants may still be required to take an English exam if deemed by the school or International Admissions Office.

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall score of 6.5 with at least 6.0 on each sub-band.
    • Nursing programs: IELTS overall 6.5 with minimum of 6.5 & Speaking Section and at least 6.0 in other sub-bands. (more info in this .doc)
  • Pearson PTE score of 53+
  • Duolingo English Test score of 95+
  • Completion of ELS level 112 or completion of the highest proficiency level at a university approved English language institute

Conditional Admission

Students that do not meet the English Proficiency requirements can apply for conditional admission to study intensive English at the ELS Language Center located on OCU’s campus. Students that are conditionally admitted will receive a conditional admission letter from OCU but must apply for an I-20 from ELS.

6. SEVIS Transfer In Form

All students must submit this form to get the SEVIS record transfer to OCU.

This form has two parts. You will complete and sign the first part. The international office at your current school will complete the second part.

Concurrent Admissions

Concurrent admissions are for students who are currently enrolled at another school in the U.S., but would like to enroll in classes at Oklahoma City University.

To be admitted as a concurrent student, the following documents must be submitted:

  • Online application
  • Transcript from attending school
  • Visa
  • Passport
  • I-20 (current school I-20)
  • Letter from your current school giving permission to enroll at OCU – must include the number of credit hours and semester that you are permitted to enroll at OCU.

*Some students may be required to submit an English proficiency test for admission.
