GUIDE TO STUDENT CONDUCT DURING COVID-19
Is the Student Code of Conduct suspended due to the University’s response to COVID-19?
- No, all enrolled students continue to be held to the Student Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook.
- Adhering to these standards of conducts, policies, and procedures ensures a safe environment for the University community.
- The Dean of Students, or his designee, may choose to modify the Student Code of Conduct to fit the needs of the student body and the University during these times.
Will I still be held responsible for Student Conduct violations while the University responds to COVID-19?
- Yes, due process will continue to take place and adjustments may be needed on a case-by-case basis.
How will the Student Conduct process take place under these circumstances?
- Online reporting, phone, or video meetings with the Student Conduct Officer or the Student Conduct Board will replace in-person meetings during this time.
- Most of the information exchanged in Student Conduct hearings can be shared electronically.
- The Student Conduct Officer will work with you to ensure you have all resources needed.
What kind of outcomes will I be assigned if found responsible of a conduct violation?
- Appropriate and measured conduct outcomes, according to the nature of the Student Code of Conduct, will be assigned.
- For a list of usual outcomes see section V-C of the Student Code of Conduct.
- Alcohol and Controlled Substances
- Violations to the Student Code of Conduct include possession/use of alcohol and controlled substances. This includes medical Marijuana.
- OCU remains bound to the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (DFSCA). This is a requirement to receiving funds or any other form of financial assistance under any federal program.
- The DFSCA prohibits the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol on University its property or as part of its activities
- Anyone seeking medical help during an alcohol or other drug-related emergency will not face Student Conduct outcomes. For details, please review the Medical Amnesty Policy.
Reporting and other Questions
- To report an alleged violation to the Student Code of Conduct, or for any question you may have about these temporary measures, please contact Lilly Bermudez, Associate Dean of Students, or Levi J. Harrel, Dean of Students.
- The Dean of Students, or his designee, may modify these temporary measures if the circumstances require.

- Anonymous reporting may limit the amount of information available to OCU to pursue an Investigation; OCU will take every effort to fully investigate each report, but reporting anonymously may limit OCU’s ability to investigate.
