Ad Astra Treble Chorus

Dr. Julie Yu, Conductor
Rehearses 3 to 3:50 p.m. Monday-Thursday, Small Rehearsal Hall

The Ad Astra Treble Chorus was selected from undergraduates and graduates at OCU. Performs a wide variety of select literature for female voices. The choir will sing in the ensemble for a semester and then switch with the treble voices in the University Chorale at semester break. Ad Astra (“to the Stars”) sang at OMEA in Tulsa in 2008 and was the first choral ensemble to be part of that annual event.

University Chorale

Tony Gonzalez, Conductor
Rehearses 3 to 3:50 p.m. Monday-Thursday, Medium Rehearsal Hall

A mixed-voice ensemble made up largely of freshman and sophomore men and women. The male voices will remain in the ensemble for the whole year, the women will sing in the ensemble for one semester and then switch with the women in Ad Astra Treble Chorus at semester break. This ensemble is a “new creation” that began in the Fall Semester in 2016.

University Chamber Choir

Dr. Julie Yu, Conductor
Rehearses 2 to 2:50 p.m. Monday-Thursday, Small Rehearsal Hall

A mixed-voice ensemble that demands refined sight-reading skills and performs advanced choral literature. The choir is primarily made up of but not limited to upperclassmen. The Chamber Choir has performed on and off campus including appearances with Canterbury Voices at the Civic Center Music Hall in downtown Oklahoma City and has performed twice at OMEA in Tulsa.

University Singers

Tony Gonzalez, Conductor
Rehearses 2 to 2:50 p.m. Monday-Thursday, Medium Rehearsal Hall

A select mixed-voice ensemble primarily made up of all undergraduate classes, which performs a wide variety of challenging choral literature from all periods. The University Singers has sung at OMEA in Tulsa and often partners with the University Chamber Choir for large-scale performances.

Choral Auditions

Choral auditions take place twice a year. The returning singers who wish to be considered for membership in another ensemble may audition during the last two weeks of the Spring Semester. These auditions are announced along with audition requirements by the end of March each year.

Incoming freshmen and transfer students audition during Orientation Week each August. Materials and musical examples are posted on line and in the Summer Choral Newsletter every summer.
